Making Extra Cash for Days Out

Everyone loves the idea of a bit of extra cash in their pocket, and we all start out with good intentions, only to forget, get bored of, or simply not have time for a myriad of survey sites. One thing that I find frustrating, is when you click on a survey, spend a few minutes thinking carefully about a few answers, only to be greeted with a message letting you know you don’t meet the survey criteria!

So, here are a few of my favourite methods to make a little extra cash – survey sites, cashback, and a few other odds and sods.

Disclaimer: below are some affiliate links and referral codes which earn me a little money each time they are clicked/used. In the interests of transparency, I will be adding information each month (beginning January 2023) to show how much I have made through my own efforts as well as through affiliates/referrals.

EverUp

EverUp is a prize-linked savings app that encourages saving through mobile gaming. It is FSC authorised, so your money is safe. The more you have saved with EverUp, the higher the incentives. For example, if you have £25 saved you receive 2,750 daily coins (and unlock the cash game – Manchester – more on that later), if you have £100 saved you receive 5,100 daily coins, and if you have £1,000 saved, you receive 32,500 daily coins. This continues all the way up to £50,000 saved for 575,000 daily coins.

Coins give you access to different games.

There is a weekly lotto draw with a jackpot of £1,000,000. Everyone gets one free entry and extra entries cost 25,000 coins.

Next up, is the daily raffle where everyone, again, gets one free entry per draw with additional entries based on how much money is saved within the app. Within this, you can win cash prizes, coins, or even the latest gadgets during special prize draws.

Then, there is the wheel of fortune games (London and Montecarlo) – these offer the chance to win coins which you can use for more entries to the above games, or the scratcher games coming up next. Again, there are free spins on these games every day and I’d suggest making the most of them because the more coins you have, the more chances you have to win the cash prizes on other games!

Finally, there are scratch card-type games (Manchester and Jakarta). As with all the other games, there are free entries, but, extra entries cost coins. However, these are the most exciting – Manchester scratcher in particular costs 100,000 coins per go, but gives a much higher chance of winning a cash prize of up to £5. Prizes tend to be in pennies, however, these add up quickly and result in what is essentially free money.

I created my account on 26/07/2022 using a referral code from a fellow blogger. I invested £25 (which I can withdraw at any time) and have so far won £7.51. You won’t get rich quickly with this one, but the thrill of winning is a real draw for me, and I enjoy checking in daily to use my free spins, scratches, and raffles with my fingers crossed! Who knows, maybe one day one of us will win big!

Vypr

Vypr is an app-based survey site. Surveys (known in-app as steers) are quick and easy to complete – often requiring you to look at an image of (for example) 2 packaging ideas for the same product and choosing the one you would rather purchase. There are a range of interesting steers with new or concept products, which I have later spotted in the shops – something I find quite exciting to think I may have, in some way, shaped the design and future of the product! Steers begin at 10 points for simple, 1-click tasks. Other steers are worth more points where they require more clicks e.g. which of these products have you bought in the past 6 months?

When you reach 10,000 points, this can be transferred into a £5 PayPal payout.

As with all survey-style sites, this is not going to get you rich overnight, but I find it’s a nice way to add a little pocket money for simple tasks whilst I’m sitting watching TV or running the bath. How often you can cash out, depends on how many steers you receive and how often you are able to check the app. I will post updates here (beginning January 2023) to show often I cash out.

Shoppix

Shoppix is my favourite receipt-scanning app. I have tried others in the past but never stuck with them. With Shoppix, you scan your receipt (most receipts are valid!) within 7 days to receive 25 tokens. If you snap your receipt on the same day as receiving it, you receive a small bonus of 5 extra tokens. Tokens can be “chased out” for vouchers with Amazon, iTunes, Love2Shop, or simply a PayPal payout. These go in increments: 3,200 tokens – £5; 6,000 tokens – £10; 11,500 tokens – £20. It pays to save your tokens and aim for higher amounts. If you take the 25 tokens for scanning your receipt within 7 days, it will take 460 receipts to earn £20. If you scan on the same day each time, it will take you 384 to earn the same amount. Whilst this may sound like a lot, it is extremely passive income – it only takes a matter of seconds to snap a photo of your receipt for items you would be buying regardless.

There are other ways to earn tokens. Scratchcards are awarded for different things such as uploading receipts in consecutive weeks or completing surveys. Sometimes scratchcards result in nothing, but other times you can win tokens – yesterday I had two scratchcards which both won 50 tokens each! Surveys appear semi-randomly and result in both tokens and scratchcards. They are usually quick and well worth it in my opinion. This significantly reduces the number of receipts required before a cash-out and adds an element of fun and surprise.

Prolific

This is by far my favourite survey site (and the only one I’ve actually stuck with!). Prolific offers a minimum of £6 per hour for their surveys and offers a real variety as the surveys tend to be part of research carried out by universities. Surveys vary greatly in length – I’ve had surveys last less than a minute, and others where I’ve been required to concentrate for over an hour. Some surveys require a longer-term commitment where you are expected to come back and complete subsequent surveys. Some require voiceover, video, or screen recording – but you can ALWAYS choose which type of survey is right for you. You can be very choosy and surveys are always upfront about what is involved. There are a lot of pre-survey questions, but this helps to tailor the surveys to you, so you don’t begin one, only to find out you don’t meet the criteria.

Unlike the other sites, this does provide an excellent payout. I’ve only used it sporadically (I’ll have a burst of using it for a few weeks, then forget about it for months!) but in the 221 submissions I’ve completed, I’ve earned £261.07. For perspective, between 24th October 2022 and 13th November 2022 I completed 10 very short surveys (all from my phone while watching TV, I could have completed more if using a computer/laptop) for a total of £7.35. I will endeavour to update this blog with more up-to-date figures when I am back, completing more surveys when I am off on maternity leave.

Top CashBack

With all the popularity surrounding cashback apps recently, this is the one that most people probably already know about. But, whether you have signed up before and forgotten about it (as I have many times), or you simply need a kick up the bum to double-check this each time you buy online, then this is your calling!

A quick search on Top CashBack (app or website) shows a plethora of online retailers where you can receive either a set amount or percentage of cashback for your purchase. Just be careful to double-check the terms – sometimes the cashback won’t track if you also use a discount code. It’s always worth doing the maths to see whether you will save more or earn more using either the code or the cashback.

This is another site where you can make some serious money. However, DO NOT buy anything you wouldn’t already be purchasing. Make sure you shop around and factor in the cashback when looking for the best price for your purchase. Also, make sure you log in regularly as some users have been known to have their accounts deactivated.

Summary

Surveys and cashback apps are never going to be get-rich-quick schemes, but they certainly are a fun little way to earn a little extra money on the side. This blog post could have been triple the size with all the many, many apps and sites that are out there now, but I’ve tried to stick with the ones I’ve been able to stick with, and in some ways, even enjoy. If you are someone who has lots of free time to sit at the computer and answer millions of surveys, then I would be more than happy to point you in the direction of some of my other blogging friends who have very comprehensive lists. However, if, like me, you have tiny pockets of time between running after your kids, working, or just otherwise have a busy life, then these are the apps and sites I would recommend you check in with daily. Let me know if you do win big – I’d love to share it here!
