101 in 1001 Update 5

Another late update of my 101 in 1001 challenge! I guess that’s my thing now. I’ll add the next one into my calendar to try to be on time!

The organisation in my life hasn’t got any better if I’m honest. Full time teaching and parenting two lively kids isn’t for the faint hearted! At least Bertie’s health issues are over and he has the all clear after a cancer scare. I’m still waiting to have my teeth out under general anaesthetic though!

Barnaby is now in the toddler room at nursery and I can’t believe we’re only one half term away from the end of Bertie’s first year of school. Life is flying by right now, and I’m trying my best to hold on tight so I don’t miss a thing!

Onto the progress update on my 101 in 1001 challenge…

Updates on my Aims

Oops. Things didn’t quite go to plan here either! I think things have just got so busy at home these past few months, that my 101 in 1001 hasn’t been at the forefront of my mind.

By the next update, it’ll be the summer holidays and things won’t be quite so chaotic (I hope!). I’ve been reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and it’s given me quite a kick to be more motivated in a range of areas.

2. Make a realistic cleaning schedule

Never happened! Keeping this for the next update as I have a few ideas for how we can manage this better now the boys are older and a little more able to help.

6. Donate/sell 101 things

The selling pile continues to linger without being uploaded. To be honest, I wouldn’t have had the time for packing and posting things these last few months, so that’s probably a good thing.

A huge bag of old clothes and shoes has gone to the charity shop though, so that’s a huge step in the right direction (although we did end up buying 14 new books between the four of us, so I’m not sure we ended up any better off!).

9. Put ring doorbell up

Still no excuse for this. I feel like I mention it at least once a week, but we still haven’t managed to do it.

16. Stay within weekly calories for a month

Effed this one right up. Brett and I have had a really serious talk, though, and other than my birthday, we have no “plans” that involve meals out over the next few months. After our half term holiday, we’re gonna kick butt.

27. Give up fizzy drinks for lent

Smashed it! Not only did I give up fizzy drinks, I also gave up chocolate for lent – trust me that was hard! I stuck with water and juice, but didn’t find giving up the fizzy too hard at all. It was only tricky when we were out and about and I’d forgotten to take a drink with me.

52. Go to the theatre 5 times

The Book of Mormon was just as good as we’d remembered. Definitely not one for the kids, but they had a lovely time with Granny too. This takes me to 3 theatre trips so far.

65. Take lunch for a month

This started out so well, but fizzled out before the end of the month. We’ve still not settled into a good routine of shopping so we often end up running out of things and having to improvise and make do. We’re hoping to get back into meal planning, and we’re going to make sure we include lunches this time!

Other Completed Goals

50. Go kayaking

We went to center parcs for my mum’s 60th and we made sure to get out on the lake. Bertie and I had a double kayak while granny had a single. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing, and I don’t think Bertie fully understood how to use the paddle, so he’d had enough within 3 minutes! Managed to push him to 15 and enjoyed some time out on the lake.

Aims for Next Month

This time, I’m limiting myself to five goals. If I achieve more, that would be great. But I really want to focus in on achieving these.

2. Make a realistic cleaning schedule

We need to get this sorted before the summer holidays chaos ensues!

6. Donate/sell 101 things

If I can get some bits sold, any money I make can go towards summer holiday adventures.

9. Put ring doorbell up

Needs doing. Enough said.

16. Stay within weekly calories for a month

We have a new meal plan to try out going forward, and we are both on board with trying to lose some weight. I really want to make this happen.

65. Take lunch for a month

Meal planning, more organisation, this should be easy! In all honesty, I think the number of bank holidays recently held me back!

Conclusion

Another rather mundane update. I’m sticking with five goals to focus on ahead of the next update, but I’m going to try to check in with myself at least fortnightly to keep on track. My main goal these next few months is to have a health kick and become more organised. If I get round to it, I might even share some of this on my Instagram if anyone’s interested!
