101 in 1001: Update 2
200 days into my 101 in 1001 challenge and I feel like I’ve lost a little bit of momentum. Last update, I’d completed 8 goals and made progress on 8 others. This time, I’ve only completed one and made progress towards three which deviates wildly from the 20 completed goals I should have by now to be on track.
There’s probably a few reasons for this – things have gotten busier at work, Bertie’s getting excited about starting school, Barnaby’s getting older and into more things… How long can I use “getting used to life as a mum of two” as an excuse for being disorganised for?
More recently, I’ve tried to focus on creating some good routines and habits as the level of disorganisation was starting to impact my mental health. I’ve bought a planner for the house, organised our documents into folders, and I’m working towards building on routines and habit stacking over the summer holidays. If only Barnaby would start sleeping better, I feel like I’d get so much more done!

Completed Goals
61. Read a play
I’ve really got back into the swing of reading this year so I thought I’d focus on my reading goals! I haven’t ever read a play for pleasure and haven’t even considered reading one since English A-Level! My mum was a big fan of Alan Bennet and dragged me to the theatre with her , many years ago, to see a play called “The History Boys” promising me I’d love it because it had a Madness song in it! She was right though and I loved it. I even have fond memories of us going to the cinema together to watch it as a film. It felt right to make The History Boys the play I read for the challenge. I did enjoy it, but mainly because I was already familiar with it. I’m not sure I’ll become a voracious reader of plays, but I’ll be more willing to try them in the future.

Progress with Goals
15. Close all rings on Apple Watch for an entire month
I’ve really been working on this in July and so far, so good! A lot of the exercise minutes have been gained by stretching routines, but any way of moving my body more is going to be a positive! I’m feeling fairly confident I’ll have this one nailed by the end of July.
39. Date day without the kids
We’ve booked the boys into nursery for a few days over the summer holidays. One of these days with the intention of Brett and I spending a date day together – hopefully cinema, a meal out, and maybe a chance to play a couple of board games.
52. Go to the theatre 5 times
In April, my mum booked for me, her, and Bertie to watch Northern Ballet’s The Tortoise and the Hare which we all really enjoyed. We’re also booked in to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang later this year!

55. Read 5 classics
Im still making slow progress with Les Mis, and I’ve also started The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. I was once in my friends church production of Dangerous Journey, based on the book, so it has always been on my to be read pile. I think I have a VHS of the performance I was in – I’d love to find it and have it converted to DVD to watch back!
58. Read a book originally written in a different language
Still plodding on with Les Mis. I’m about 270 pages in, which doesn’t sound like much, but there are (on average) over 100 words more per page than modern books!
72. Work desk clear at the end of every day for a half term
I had been doing well with this, but my desk is small and things were building up. I’ve bought some new desk and drawer organisers to help me to stay more organised and I’m going to make this a real priority in September!

Conclusion
9 goals complete, 11 goals in progress. Definitely not on track as I’d like to have been at around 20 goals by now, but over summer there should be a good 10 I can complete by next time with another 10 I can make some good progress towards. Hopefully I’ll have a little more to report for update 3 on 27th October. See you there!
