Best Felt Christmas Trees for Kids Plus How to DIY
When you have a toddler, the idea of a real tree in your living room can be a daunting one! Kids get into everything, and it can be frustrating to see little hands reaching for your glass ornaments. One great idea that we found was to give our toddler his own tree. While it may seem unusual to give kids their own little trees, it’s a great way for kids of all ages to get involved in decorating at Christmas time without worrying about breakable ornaments on your family tree. It’s time for a felt Christmas tree. The best part is that there are even hidden benefits in this fun way of decorating including fine motor skills, colour recognition, counting, and following instructions. Children will be having so much fun, they won’t give the real tree a second thought.

So, where can you find the perfect felt tree for your family? Remember to take into account delivery times and the seller’s handling time if you are buying to ensure your felt tree arrives in good time for the holiday season. (Not affiliate links)

Make your own!
Perhaps you’re feeling adventurous, or maybe you have older children who want to be more involved, but a perfect way to add even more enjoyment to a felt Christmas tree is to make your own. Read on for the full details.

To make a DIY felt Christmas tree you will need:
- Yard of green felt (approx )
- Coloured felt for ornament
- Sharp scissors
- Calk or marker
All items should be available at your local craft store.
Here are the four easy steps you need to create your own felt Christmas tree.
1. Fold the green felt in half and draw the shape of a Christmas tree, ensuring the folded edge is the centre of your big tree. Make sure it is quite wide to give plenty of space to hold ornaments.
2. Once you are happy with the tree shape you have created, cut out the felt tree and unfold it to display your Christmas tree base.
3. Next you need to create your felt ornaments. See below for more information.
4. If you want to have your felt Christmas tree up on a wall, consider using command strips or perhaps use string and a command hook to hang it over a door.
Felt Ornaments
Here you can get imaginative and make lots of fun decorations and different ornaments. Baubles in every colour, candy canes, stars, snowflakes, present boxes and nows in different colors, a star for the top of the tree – anything and everything goes on your own Christmas tree!
Cut more ornaments and decorations than you think you will need. Sometimes pieces go missing, and it is always fun for children to have enough options to change things up. The felt is static so should stick to itself well enough for hours of fun.
Try to make sure your ornaments are a good size – small parts can be dangerous for young children and nothing spoils the holiday fun like a trip to the hospital!
