Project 52: Week 5
This week finally make the end of January! I’ve never been one to complain about it before but this one felt long!
You can read more about project 52 in our week one post.

Monday: Brett was in the office and Bertie was at nursery so it was a mummy and Barnaby day. Got all of our payslips and expenses uploaded ready for the mortgage guy tomorrow. Expenses actually look quite good and I can’t wait to be back at work on a full wage! Read a full book (graphic novel) and ordered the next one while Barnaby was playing with his instruments. Played, pottered round the house, and picked Bertie up. A calm day.
Tuesday: Bertie’s started saying he doesn’t like nursery and he doesn’t want to go. Not sure why because he always has so much fun there and never wants to leave! Had a meeting with the mortgage guy who checked over all our pay slips, and expenditure. Hopefully he’s going to find us the right deal and we can start seriously looking and enquiring. Pottered around the house and played with Barnaby. Set up a cafe for Bertie after nursery which went down well.
Wednesday: health visitor came early but Barnaby had just woken from his nap so it was well-timed. He’s meeting all milestones and doing really well. 50th centile weight, 25th centile height, 75th centile head. So different to his brother who was below the 0.4th centile in everything! Not now though, he’s certainly caught up! We popped to the shops and did the weekly shopping since we forgot to use our slot this week. Somehow managed it for £38 as we’re planning a few “out of the freezer” meals. Gas safety guy came round – not good news. He had to condemn the boiler which meant no heating or hot water. Luckily the landlord told them to go ahead with a new one within 20 minutes and they’re booked in for Friday. It’s going to be a chilly couple of days though! All wrapped up in jumpers. Bertie cried about the heating not working, bless him. Snuggled in blankets and all got an early night to share body heat!

Thursday: a keeping in touch day for me at work. Unexpectedly asked to teach in the morning but the team helped me out and we had some fun. Brett took the boys to his mums as they were just too cold. He brought Barnaby to me at lunch for a feed. The afternoon dragged but I got lots of stuff sorted for after half term. Back home to the cold house. Brett made a lovely spag bol for tea and Bertie went straight to sleep again. We ordered a pudding as a treat which took over an hour to come so we ended up being up late. Headed up to bed at midnight. (Didn’t go well – read Friday!) Can’t wait for a new boiler tomorrow!
Friday: what a fiasco. We ended up calling 111 for Barnaby at 12.40am as he woke up suddenly really upset, was wheezing, had a barking cough, and his ribs were sucking in. They sent an ambulance and he had his first journey to Hull Royal. We were seen quickly and the doctor diagnosed croup which I expected. After a dose of dexamethasone, Barnaby fell asleep. Doctor checked him again after a couple of hours and let us go home. Somehow Bertie slept through the whole ordeal at home with daddy! By the time we got home it was 5am. Finally got to sleep at 5.30 and my alarm went off at 7 so we could be up before they came to fit the new boiler. Luckily Brett’s mum let us go to hers again so she and Bertie played while I entertained Bertie. We cancelled swimming because I was too tired, Barnaby still wasn’t 100% and who knew when the boiler would be finished! Once the workmen were gone we headed home and I had a nap on the sofa while the boys cooked tea. Another early night all round.

Saturday: all laid in until 7.30 which was nice as both boys had slept well too. Played for a little while then walked round to the shops. Bertie was a nightmare so him and Brett went back home while Barnaby and I finished the shopping. £76 and next to nothing to show for it. Although Brett and Bertie both have a load of new socks! Had lunch then I went on a hoovering rampage – made a huge difference though! Went to my mums for tea and the boys were both so brave with the dog. Bertie even held the second lead and walked her round to the chippy. Both fell asleep on the way home so easiest bedtime ever. Brett watched the rugby recorded from earlier and I read my book. Perfection.
Sunday: mostly a day of chill. Had a slow start to the morning, reading books and playing toys. Bertie set up his own castle and took 101 photos of it (not even an exaggeration!). I had some school work to do so Brett took the boys to his mums for a bit. I got my school work done and a bit of blog maintenance. Played some more toys then had a lovely stew – one of the only meals everyone’s guaranteed to eat! Long bath night for the boys – brought out some new bath toys for them and Bertie didn’t want to get out! Chilled out once the boys were asleep and enjoyed catching up on TV before my last week of maternity starts tomorrow!

Journey to a better me
This weeks focus was: daily gratitude, daily vitamin, and read at least 5 pages every day.

Daily gratitude:
Done! I’m enjoying filling in my gratitude diary again. It’s helping me to sit back and think on what I actually get done each day and what I want to achieve going forward. I feel more grounded and in control. Need to keep it up!
Daily vitamin:
Done! Not really feeling any different for it, but I feel like I’m building a good routine that will hopefully benefit my health going forwards. Will keep it up and look into what supplements/vitamins are actually best for me rather than a cheap multivitamin.
Read 5 pages every day;
Done! read two books (graphic novels) and reignited my love of reading. Started Les Mis again with new determination to finish. I might not get to read every day going forward (especially as I’m back at work soon!) but I want to make more of an effort to fit it in as much as I can. Less scrolling, more reading.
I can’t believe I actually achieved all 3 – finally!
Focus for next week: family project for Lunar New Year.

Well done for getting all 3 aims done for the week. Glad Barnaby’s OK. I remember doing a midnight car ride with N to out of hours after he was coughing with croup. As soon as he got there he stopped of course! The cold dry air helped. Hope you get some relaxing in your last mat leave week.
Good luck with the mortgage.
Aww! That’s a shame Bertie isn’t liking nursery. I hope you get to the bottom of why.
Well done to Barnaby with the health visitor visit. That is rubbish that the boiler was condemned. It’s good that you have a landlord which was quick to sort it.
Oh no! I hope Barnaby is feeling better now. x
Oh how hectic hope the wee one is feeling better. well done for doing your 3 too
Gosh what a fright you must have had having to go to the hospital with Barnaby but I’m glad that he is doing ok. I hope you enjoy your last week of mat leave and get to relax x
I am glad that Barnaby is feeling ok now. Well done for achieving all three of your goals. Vitamins do not make a big impact imminently, but they might help in the long term, so why not take some? I take vitamins, about a few times a week as I don’t remember to get them daily.
Good luck with the mortgage and hope Barnaby is better now. Croup is horrible. Hope the boiler installation went well
January did feel like a very long month, didn’t it? What a gorgeous photo of Barnaby in his panda top. Sorry to hear about your boiler – glad you didn’t have to wait too long for the new boiler to be fitted. Poor Barnaby having croup – it’s amazing how quickly the dexamethasone works though. Well done on achieving your goals this week. #project365
