Project 52: Week 8

Monday: A horrendous nights sleep. It’s like Barnaby has picked up on my anxiety about being back at work. Glad we got all the bags and bits sorted last night because it was an easy morning of getting dressed, giving the boys breakfast, and setting off. By the time I’d been in school 30 minutes it felt like I’d been there forever. Brett rang to say Barnaby had gone straight off to have some breakfast and nursery and seemed fine. I called them at 10ish and they said he’d not cried once and they were just getting ready to go out. Such a brave baby! Relied heavily on my team to get me through the day, which I felt guilty about but things will get better. Went to nursery to feed Barnaby on my lunch – he cried when he saw me but settled with a cuddle. He fed to sleep and I went back to work feeling more settled. After work we had tea then did the bed routine. I quickly got all the bags ready for Tuesday, then Brett and I both went to bed at 9 as we were exhausted!
Tuesday: feeling thankful for our organisation again last night as we had another smooth morning despite the lack of sleep. Barnaby went over fine again and things were a little easier for me at work. Went to nursery to feed Barnaby again over lunch but he refused to sleep. Passed him over to his key worker and he cried a little – cue the I’m guilty! Luckily he’d stopped by the time I got to the car. Back at work and tried to work through some of my to do list but it just keeps piling up! Picked the boys up after nursery and they all commented on how well Barnaby has settled. He’s not napping much, but happy enough. A very similar night of heading straight to bed for all of us!

Wednesday: another rough night – how I used to function off such little sleep when Bertie was a baby I do not know! Brett told nursery we were going to try letting him go all day without a feed but by 10 they rang me to say he’d been really unsettled and maybe I should go. So off I went on my lunch again, meaning the to do list carries on growing. He fell asleep almost instantly and they said he slept for an hour. We had a nice afternoon at school followed by my first staff meeting back. It overran which meant I was a bit later getting the boys. Barnaby had just been given some calpol as he had a temp and was really unsettled again. Poor boy. Another early night all round!
Thursday: Barnaby slept much better dosed up on teething powder and Calpol. Luckily it’s a daddy day today so the pressure was off for getting the boys ready and I could just worry about myself. Finally my PPA morning which meant I could make some progress on the to do list. Barnaby was asleep over lunch so Brett didn’t bring him for a feed. He was absolutely fine and just topped up later on. It was nice to get updates from Brett through the day to know how the boys were. Managed to stay up a little later and actually watch TV with Brett!

Friday: another daddy day so I got myself ready for work then got the boys up so I could say goodbye. A bit of a hectic day at work, and thankfully my team stepped in to alleviate some of my stress. Barnaby came for a feed over lunch and seemed to be feeling much better. Until Brett got him home again and Barnaby threw up all over him! Did my first assembly (thrown in at the deep end I know!) and celebrated my first week back being a (sort of) success. Brett brought the boys for swimming, though he stayed to swim Bertie and I took Barnaby home for some milk and TLC – no one wants a sicky baby in a pool! We all stayed up a little bit tonight and watched a film together.
Saturday: it’s finally the weekend! We had a day at home catching up on things we didn’t do through the week when we were too tired. We got loads done and even had a sort outside while the boys played in the garden. Brett went to the shops while Barnaby napped and Bertie played to get some bits for the next few days since we forgot to do our online shop this week! An early night for the boys and Brett and I managed to catch up on a bit of TV together.

Sunday: Barnaby was up at 5.30 but somehow I still felt like I’d had a semi/l-decent sleep. Brett and Bertie got up at 7.45 and I went back to bed for an hour. Bertie watched his favourite “Silly Symphonies” on Disney while Barnaby napped then Brett took them out so I could get some work done. I prepped for my observation on Monday and made a rough plan for the week then got tea started for when the boys got back. We had an early tea then Brett and Bertie built some Lego together while Barnaby napped. Then it was bath and bed for the boys and Brett and I had a sneaky Uber eats pudding order and did the online shopping for the week.
Journey to a better me
This weeks goal was: sleep by 11, wake by 7, back into calorie counting.
Tick, tick, tick! I think I was actually asleep by 10 most nights! Didn’t manage to stick fully to my calories, but I did track everything and I’m happy with that.
Next weeks goal: eat lunch with other teachers at least 3 times.

Aww! It looks like Barnaby has settled in well at nursery, don’t be so hard on yourself! It sounds like work has been so busy for you. x
Sounds like a busy first week back trying to juggle everything. Barnaby sounds like he is settling well at nursery though. Hope Barnaby is feeling better now and you’re getting a little more sleep this week. #project365
Hope back to work is going well and Barnaby continues to do well in nursery, hope he’s feeling better now
Glad to see that Barnaby’s settled in at nursery, and the work routine seems to be going well too. I need to start going to bed earlier too, but 10 would mean I’d never be able to watch the tv shows I wanted.
