Project 52: Weeks 9 & 10

Oops. It’s been a busy couple of weeks and I’ve barely been able to catch my breath. Now I’m back at work I definitely don’t have as much to share day to day though.

Monday: back to work for my second week. Feeling much more positive and ready to get stuck in. My breakfast had gone off (didn’t check the yoghurt!) so it wasn’t the best start to the week, but Barnaby had a great day at nursery and didn’t need a lunch time feed which meant I could actually work over my break! Had my first lesson observation – not sure how well it went, but at least it’s done. Home with the boys for tea, books, and bed.

Tuesday: short staffed at work which made for an interesting day, but we pulled together (as always!) and got through. Observation feedback was good – feeling positive that I’m on the right track. Another day where Barnaby didn’t need a lunchtime feed – I can’t believe how quickly he’s settled at nursery. Bertie’s room have some eggs that are hatching so he spent ages telling me about them before we managed to get home! Not doing so well with the meal plan this week so Brett picked up a pizza for a quick tea.

Wednesday: not a great night’s sleep so everyone was pretty tired today. Bertie was quite emotional about the chickens at nursery after connecting the dots between the baby chicks and the chicken we eat..! Nursery rang at lunch to say Barnaby had been very emotional and not eaten much so I went in to feed him. He did better through the afternoon – must have had that Wednesday feeling. Had a staff meeting so was later getting the boys which meant no time for playing after nursery. They were shattered and went straight to sleep so Brett and I actually got a chance to watch tv together.

Thursday: Brett took the boys to his mums while I was at work. It was my PPA morning and I got a fair amount done – never as much as I’d like but that’s always the case.

Friday: it was my turn to swim with the boys this week and they both did really well. Unfortunately, Bertie had a very tricky bedtime. I’m not sure where the behaviour comes from sometimes, but it feels like he’s a different child!

Saturday: went to my mums today. Bertie’s getting so much braver around the dog which is lovely to see. We went out to the pub for our lunch and the boys were so well behaved. We went to Morrisons to buy some pudding and Bertie got to have a go on the tills! Barnaby didn’t sleep very well so I was up half the night with him then up for the day at 5 – might be teething or a tummy ache.

Sunday: had a nice day – let Brett have a lie in then he took Bertie out in the garden then to the park while Barnaby and I had a nap. Got some school work done and jobs around the house while the boys played. All enjoyed stew from the slow cooker and watched some TV. Time ran away with us so it was a quick bath and bed for the boys.

Monday: the start of a very busy week at work for me.

Tuesday: woke up with loads of mouth ulcers – guess starting back at work has hit me harder than I realised.

Wednesday: another busy day in school. Not much to report other than Barnaby got through his first full nursery week without needing milk! He was definitely ready to get home and rest though.

Thursday: Barnaby didn’t sleep well and I ended up taking him down to doze on the sofa as he was screaming the second he wasn’t on me. Spent my entire PPA organising a school trip which means my to-do pile isn’t improving much! Left work as early as I could to spend time with the boys before bed. Booked tickets for us to go to the Book of Mormon next year – we love it and it’ll probably be the first time we ask for the boys to be looked after while we do something for us!

Friday: another night on the sofa for me. Barnaby is extremely clingy right now. Can’t decide if it’s just teething or something else. He’s fine during the day other than a little extra dribble. Had a busy day at work then waited for the boys to come for swimming. Brett’s turn to swim this week and it was nice to watch the progress they’re both making in the pool.

Saturday: the boys finally had a good sleep and treat us to a lie in. No one got up before 8.30 (minus a few feeds for Barnaby in the night). Bertie helped Brett to make the new shelves and bits from Ikea. Brett went out to the shops while Barnaby napped and Bertie watched Shrek. A nice chill day at home.

Sunday: not such a good night! But I got a lovely Mother’s Day card, some chocolate and a book which was a nice surprise. We popped out to B&M to get some storage bits and have a wander. Brett took the boys to his mums so I could have a long bubble bath with my book – spent a whole uninterrupted hour in the bath which was heaven! Had a takeaway night and started watching the new Wonka film before getting the boys to bed.

Journey to a better me

Last time I did this I set a goal to eat lunch with the other teachers 3 times per week.

I think I’ve pretty much averaged this and I even joined breakfast club where we get together on a Friday morning. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks so I’ve felt quite chained to my desk, but I would like to get in the habit of eating with others more regularly to get a proper break.

Next weeks goal: start a Holi project.
