Week 3

Monday: Horrendous night with Barnaby. He wouldn’t go down at all. He’s not feeling well and wants constant contact. Had a chilled day at home and napped with him in the afternoon. Brett was in the office all day so it was very quiet. Bertie fell asleep on the way back from nursery and asked to go to bed. Asleep in bed by 6. Slept like a log!
Tuesday: Slightly better night with Barnaby. Bertie slept through it all until 7. Over 13 hours sleep – unheard of! Barnaby and I napped through the shopping coming – luckily Brett sorted it. First appointment with mortgage advisor. Childcare costs affecting how much we can borrow. Still hoping shared ownership will be an option. Barnaby perked up a little in the afternoon and played. Picked Bertie up from nursery. Wide awake today and had a chance to play after tea.
Wednesday: Barnaby slept better but not great. Still very sleepy all morning. He’s full of cold. Another day chilling on the sofa watching junk on TV. Bertie tired after nursery but stayed awake long enough to play.

Thursday: First full day back in school for me. Barnaby didn’t sleep well, of course. Sorted lots of bits from my old classroom into my new one. Chatted with my new team. Met all the kids. We’ve got a lot to do but it’s going to be fun. Barnaby very sleepy – full of cold. Bertie napped after being at Nana’s so let him stay up late playing ninja turtles.
Friday: Barnaby had a great night’s sleep, then Brett took the boys down and I slept until 10. Absolute bliss! Felt like a new woman. Played in the house. Got some jobs done – washing, sorting old clothes, moved some toys around, Christmas books away (finally!), and made a book donation pile. Barnaby still quite sleepy and snotty. Took Bertie swimming – he did great. Bertie helped make pitta pizzas for tea. Barnaby didn’t sleep until midnight!
Saturday: Brett’s turn for a lie in. Boys were good for me. Barnaby’s perked up a lot. Bertie asked to do some “learning work” so did some phonics. Went for a walk together to the shops. Very cold. Played around the house. Barnaby napped upstairs because Bertie kept waking him up. Struggled with calories today.
Sunday: Went out to Smyths so Bertie could buy the new ninja turtle figures – very excited boy. Barnaby’s snotty nose is better but he’s coughing lots still. Poor boy. Lots of playing with toys and Barnaby practicing walking. Brett did bath times while I cleared up after tea. Played gladiators with Bertie after letting him watch the new series.

Journey to a better me
This weeks focus was daily gratitude.
My first “fail” of the year. Amidst the sleepless nights, nerves about a day in work, and Barnaby being poorly I’ve been too tired to think about this every night.
Haven’t had the energy to dedicate to closing the rings on my Apple Watch and it’s been much too cold to take a poorly baby out for a walk. I’m so glad I chose that focus for last week! I have still stuck to my weekly calories though. Did forget to track the spaghetti one day, which meant I was around 300 calories over when I went back and checked, but I clawed these back by being more careful a few other days.
Next week’s focus: consistent daily gratitude and a daily vitamin.

I am glad Barnaby is feeling better now. It is rotten when little one’s don’t sleep. It sounds like the return to school for you went well. x
Thank you, me too! It was nice to be back around adult company for sure x
Poor Barnaby. Glad he had perked up by the end of the week and hope his cold goes soon. How lovely to get a lie-in. Focusing on daily gratitude is hard with a poorly baby and not enough sleep. Hope that next week will be a better one. #project365
Thank you. I’ve just been too tired to even think about filling in my gratitude diary when I get into bed! Hopefully a little more sleep is on the cards next week
I do ho[e Barnaby is better now and you’ve managed to catch up with some sleep and have a couple more lie ins.
Thank you, he’s doing much better now. Just a snotty mess haha. We’re definitely back to more sleep though which is lovely.
Glad the boys are both feeling better now, there is so much going around at the moment. My grandson has got COVID at the moment
Oh no! I hope he feels better soon
Aw what a week, hopefully this week will be better for sleep
Aww glad Barnaby is feeling a bit better now. Hope the cough has gone by now and you have had better sleep.
Barnaby looks adorable tucked in the pram all cosy and warm. Sorry you had a rough patch with him unwell and not settling. Good idea sharing the lie-ins so you both could catch up on some rest zzz.
